Notre Dame Roster: Best Prospects for the 2019 NFL Draft

Six Notre Dame players were selected in the April NFL draft, including one in the first round. It’s to be expected from one of the best NCAA teams in the country. Last year, the Notre Dame roster produced a 12-1 season.

Jerry Tillery

The defensive tackle looked like his draft was doomed when he suffered a shoulder injury late in the season. Many analysts figured he would drop to the second round. However, the Los Angeles Chargers selected Tillery with the 28th overall pick.

In 50 career games, he recorded 12 solo sacks, including eight last season. He recorded a career total of 135 tackles, 24.5 of which were for a loss, including 10.5 this last season. He was named second-team All-American by the Sporting News, Sports Illustrated, and the Associated Press. Plus, Tillery was on several lists as one of the top linemen in the country.

At the combine, the 6-foot-6, 295-pound lineman ran a 4.93 40 yard dash and had a 32-inch vertical jump. He also did 23 reps, giving him an overall grade of 6.03.

Miles Boykin

The Notre Dame wide receiver was chosen with the 93rd pick overall. He still had one year of eligibility remaining but opted to come out after his true senior season. The Baltimore Ravens found Boyken too good to pass up after he was named MVP of the 2018 Citrus Bowl. He recorded an impressive 102 receiving yards.

At 6-foot-4, he has the right size and showed at the combine that he has speed as well, running the 40-yard dash in 4.42 seconds. Boykin made 59 catches last season for 872 total yards, an average of just under 15 yards per catch.

Julian Love

Love was selected in the fourth round by the New York Giants after giving up his final year of eligibility. He started all but four games in his three seasons in the Irish uniform and set a school record for pass breakups with 44, including 23 as a sophomore. He made 176 total tackles and had five interceptions in his career, including returning three turnovers for touchdowns.

Love will have the opportunity to make an impact right away for the Giants, as he should take over one of the starting quarterback positions.

Dexter Williams

Williams had a monster year at the running back position for the Irish and was selected with the 194th overall pick by the Green Bay Packers. Williams stock may have been better had it not been for a four-game suspension he was forced to serve to start the 2018 season. However, he delivered 995 yards rushing in just nine games, averaging 6.7 yards per carry.

With Aaron Rodgers getting older and brand-new coaching staff in place, the team is looking to win now. A low round draft pick usually winds up making a big contribution for the Packers at the running back position, and Williams has the tools to be that kind of back.

Notre Dame Odds Predictions

It is just about three months away until the Notre Dame football team will take the field for the first time in 2019. Notre Dame opens the season against Louisville. The Notre Dame odds are set at 19.0 points for the contest but it is still too early to be banking on numbers like that. However, here are some things you can count on for the season.

Notre Dame Crushes Michigan

The honeymoon with Jim Harbaugh in Ann Arbor is almost over. He has been a huge disappointment for Michigan, and it will not get much better for him when Notre Dame wins by at least 10 against the Wolverines.

Notre Dame does not play Michigan until October 26, so any kinks that need to be worked out should be resolved way before that. This will be one of the better Notre Dame betting opportunities in 2019.

A Tough Secondary

There are many who are already heralding the safety combination of Alohi Gilman and Jalen Elliot. After combining for 162 tackles, six interceptions, and four forced fumbles last season, it is expected that the pair will be the very best safety tandem in the country.

Chris Finke Top Receiver

The loss of Boykin is a tough one, but Notre Dame already had an All-American receiver in Chris Finke. The future NFL receiver fits well in the slot and is an incredible mismatch against both linebackers and safeties who are often forced to cover him. Look for him to be among the college football leaders in touchdowns.

Not a Lot of Respect for a Return

The Notre Dame betting odds of winning the national title are set at +4000, as Clemson (+175) and Alabama (+250) are expected to play in the national title game once again.

Ahead of Notre Dame is Michigan, set at +1400. Because Notre Dame will likely beat them in October, expect them to jump back into that national playoff hunt once again.
